Twenty-Five Myths That Are Destroying the Environment

Daniel Botkin

Daniel Botkin

Author Daniel Botkin will discuss and sign copies of his book, Twenty-Five Myths That Are Destroying the Environment: What Many Environmentalists Believe and Why They Are Wrong. The book explores myths circulating in ecological and political discussions. According to Botkin, these myths often drive policy, and what may seems like an environmentally conscious action may very well be harming habitats and ecosystems.

Botkin is a biologist, writer, and public speaker who works in the areas of conservation, energy production, and computer modeling. He is also the author of Discordant Harmonies: A New Ecology for the 21st Century. He has held faculty positions at the Yale University School of Forestry and Environmental Studies; the University of California, Santa Barbara, Department of Ecology, Evolution, and Marine Biology; and George Mason University, as director of Program on Global Change; and was a research scientist at Woods Hole Marine Biological Laboratory. He earned a master’s degree from the University of Wisconsin in English literature and scientific journalism and a Ph.D. in biology from Rutgers University.
