Charlie passed away on Monday, April 22, at the age of twenty-two. He was oldest southern sea otter living at a zoo or aquarium.

Charlie is the oldest southern sea otter living at any aquarium or zoo. He is the second sea otter on record to ever reach twenty-two.

Exterior construction and landscaping has been completed for Pacific Visions, the Aquarium’s first major expansion, which opens to the public on May 24, 2019.

Brook passed away on January 29 after being diagnosed with congestive heart failure earlier this month by the Aquarium’s veterinary team. She was nearly 22 years old.

The Aquarium’s new wing will open to the public in May 2019.

The Aquarium of the Pacific’s Seafood for the Future program has released a report on a forum it convened with American Honda, in partnership with the Honda Marine Science Foundation, titled: Aligning Stakeholder Communications for U.S. Marine Aquaculture at the Aquarium of the Pacific.

The campaign encourages Mexico’s incoming president to continue conservation initiatives to save the vaquita, which is found only in the Upper Gulf of California in Baja.
