Kera Mathes recorded this Aquacast at the Aquarium on March 2, 2017. Mathes formerly served as the Aquarium’s boat programs manager and resident whale expert.

Mathes spent the summer of 2016 at the San Juan Islands in the Pacific Northwest photographing whales and other wildlife as a naturalist. She discusses what she learned about these whales’ social interactions and current threats to their population.
