In their book A Bright Future: How Some Countries Have Solved Climate Change and the Rest Can Follow, Joshua Goldstein and Staffan Qvist offer a look at the assumptions that have long shaped the climate change debate. They ask, as climate change nears potentially disastrous tipping points, should we turn to nuclear power as a proven, scalable source of carbon-free energy? How might the world replicate the successes of Sweden, France, and Ontario in decarbonizing the grid by combining renewable energy with a quick buildout of nuclear reactors? Goldstein will present a lecture at the Aquarium to discuss the potential role for nuclear power in addressing climate change. Goldstein is professor emeritus of international relations at American University in Washington, D.C.
