Sea level is rising and will continue to rise for decades. The rate of rise is accelerating as the ocean warms and expands and as mountain glaciers and particularly Greenland and Antarctica melt more rapidly than projected. The map of the world’s coastlines will be redrawn well before the end of this century. Big chunks of some nations and U.S. states will be swallowed up by the sea. Low-lying islands will be drowned, and hundreds of thousands of residents will have to find new homes. California will not be immune.

Speakers will include Dr. Reinhard Flick and Dr. Daniel Cayan from the Scripps Institution of Oceanography, UCSD; Dr. Laurel Harrison Breece from Long Beach City College; Dr. Gary Griggs from University of California, Santa Cruz; Dr. Steve Crooks, from Silvestrum Climate Associates, LLC; Sarah Newkirk, J.D., from the Nature Conservancy; Dr. Michael Orbach, from Duke University; and Deborah Halberstadt, J.D., from California’s Ocean Protection Council.

When: Wednesdays, March 7, 14, 21 & 28, 2018, from 7:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

Cost: $40 per person and $35 per Aquarium member. CEU credit through California State University, Long Beach, is available for an additional $10. Parking will be validated.
