Visitors can learn more about our planet during Exploration Shows at 10:30 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. on weekends in the Aquarium’s Ocean Science Center. Discover new things as you observe Earth using Science on a Sphere (SOS). SOS was developed by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration to help the public learn more about global ocean and climate phenomena. Data collected daily by NOAA and NASA satellites are transformed into visualizations for the 6-foot-diameter SOS globe.

Come in “exploration mode” to observe and have your questions answered about our planet. During these Exploration Shows, an Aquarium educator will manipulate the sphere to show audiences the latest visualizations and answer questions about Earth and our ocean. Visitors will be able to see how sea surface temperatures have been changing over the past year, discover what Earth would look like if we drained it of all its water, recent storm systems, and more.

The Ocean Science Center is located off the Aquarium’s Great Hall near the Honda Blue Cavern. In addition to Exploration Shows, short films created for the SOS play daily on rotation. See the screens by the Ocean Science Center entrance for showtimes.
