Security Officer I

Full Time With Benefits- $19.75/hour

Security Officers at the Aquarium of the Pacific are responsible for controlling and maintaining a safe and secure environment both for guests and staff. We are looking to fill positions on our Swing Shift 3:00 p.m. – 11:00 p.m.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Perform patrols of interior areas and external perimeter as assigned. (Patrols occur multiple times throughout shifts.)
  • Report suspicious persons, activity, and hazards immediately. Take ownership of issues/incidents that arise until directed otherwise.
  • Provide first aid/administer CPR if necessary to guests/staff as needed.
  • Participate in crosswalk management, traffic control, and parking management as needed in partnership with the parking structure.
  • Welcome guests on arrival, answer questions, and offer general Aquarium information.
  • De-escalate adverse or highly charged situations. Remain calm.
  • Participate in other routine assignments such as bag screening, crosswalk management, and cash escorts.
  • Complete detailed daily log and other incident reports, as assigned.
  • Attend trainings for guard card and other related topics, as assigned.
  • Operate CCTV surveillance system, when assigned.
  • Remain onsite throughout shift, in the event of incidents that require ‘all hands’ response.
  • Additional responsibilities may be delegated due to the culture of the aquarium.

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS

  • Have a working knowledge of resources available, including computer, telephone, radio, property surveillance cameras, and alarm systems, as trained.
  • Ability to interact positively with guests in all types of situations and to de-escalate any potential hostile or aggressive situation.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, successfully handling multiple tasks such as daily activity log, key and radio control forms, vehicle deployment, lost and found, and control of deliveries admitted onto Aquarium property.
  • Ability to meet scheduled shift, including weekend and holiday periods.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must have a High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Must speak fluent English. Other spoken languages are a plus.
  • Previous security officer experience or current Guard Card status is a plus.
  • Previous customer service experience is also a plus.
  • Possess a valid CA driver’s license (minimum of 3 years driving experience).

  • Ability to sit, stand, and walk for long periods of time.
  • Ability to run.
  • Ability to balance, bend, squat, climb, kneel, twist.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 0-50lbs.
  • Ability to pull and push up to 0-50lbs.
  • Full functional range of motion in all major body joints from reaching, twisting, bending, simple and power gripping, fine and gross motor skills.
