Jennifer Runyan

Education Supervisor

Jennifer Runyan is an education supervisor with expertise in plankton, harmful algal blooms, and bioluminescence.

She coordinates and oversees the education department’s outreach programs focusing on bringing the Aquarium to those who are unable to visit the Aquarium. Before becoming an educator, Runyan worked as a data manager and program coordinator of a harmful algal bloom monitoring network. Much of her work has focused within Southern California and Washington. She is also a co-leader of the education department’s diversity, equity, and inclusion internal working group.

Runyan holds a bachelor’s degree in marine biology from University of California, Santa Cruz, and a master’s degree in environmental studies from Evergreen State College. Both degrees focus on harmful algal bloom taxonomy and ecology.
