In this episode, the panel discusses current issues affecting our nation’s coasts. Speakers explore the topic of “Adapting to the New Normal Along Our Coasts.” First, they establish some of the distinguishing qualities of that “new normal,” and then they explore with two experienced social scientists and policy analysts what our options are for adapting to, and coping with, this “New Normal.”

Speakers include Margaret Davidson, acting director of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Office of Ocean and Coastal Resource Management; Gary Griggs, professor of Earth sciences and director of the Institute of Marine Sciences at the University of California, Santa Cruz; and Michael Orbach, professor of marine affairs and policy and director of the Coastal Environmental Management Program in the School of the Environment at Duke University. Aquarium of the Pacific President and CEO Jerry Schubel will moderate the conversation.

Original air date: February 19, 2014.
