The name, pademelon, is derived from an aboriginal or native Australian term for 'small kangaroo from the forest'. Pademelons, petite members of the kangaroo and wallaby family, are marsupials, that is, females have an abdominal pouch.

Our dusky pademelons enjoy their daily wagon rides out to mingle with our guests who are always amazed at the softness of their brown fur.
- At the Aquarium
We have two dusky pademelons, a female named Foster and a male named Paddington. They were given to us by the San Diego Wild Animal Park where they were captive bred. Their Aquarium habitat is Explorers' Cove.
