Building A Better Future

Education is at the heart of the Aquarium’s mission, and this year we expanded access to meaningful, hands-on learning experiences for students of all backgrounds.

Through free admission for Title I schools, immersive field trips, paid internships, and our CELP Scholar Program, we are building lasting pathways for the next generation of ocean stewards.

CELP Scholars

In 2024, the Aquarium announced the inaugural cohort of the Community, Equity, Learning, and Persistence (CELP) Scholar Program.

The 15 students studying fields related to marine science represent 9 Southern California colleges.

Eighty percent of the recipients are the first in their family to attend college, and sixty percent are Pell Grant recipients.

In the year-long program, scholars contributed to the Aquarium’s member magazine, engaged with the public at community events, and met with Aquarium staff members to discuss education and conservation projects.

Learn More About Our CELP Program

The Aquarium of the Pacific’s mission to instill wonder, respect and stewardship for the ocean and ecosystems first inspired us to donate. We were delighted to hear the CELP Scholar Program focused on those interested in making a contribution to related sciences. We’ve met many wonderful participants who inspire us with their stories and their determination. We are grateful to contribute so that those fine individuals receive resources and a supportive community to launch their careers. It’s a gift that continues as they reach out to the next generation of students.  The scholars share how much it has helped them. And it gives us hope for our future.
