Aviculture Internship

The Aquarium of the Pacific has internship opportunities in the aviculture department for the summer term, starting in May and ending in August. Interns will learn the daily care of a flock of lorikeets, including daily diet preparation and feeding, exhibit cleaning, animal observation, and record-keeping. Interns may also get the opportunity to work with our shorebird and diving bird collections. Through individual, hands-on training, interns will learn to distinguish between individual species, learn to recognize different behaviors, will assist in veterinary procedures, may assist in the care of breeding birds and their chicks, and other tasks.

These are non-paid positions.

Our lorikeet exhibit is an interactive aviary housing over 100 lorikeets. The interactive nature of the exhibit poses a unique challenge in caring for the animals. Our alcid exhibit is home to four species of diving birds that are native to the northern Pacific Ocean, and our shorebird exhibit houses several different species found in the Southern California area.
