Service Excellence Internship

The purpose of the Service Excellence Internship is to provide an opportunity for High School students to gain experience in delivering exceptional customer service at a non-profit free-learning organization such as the Aquarium of the Pacific. The Service Excellence Internship is geared towards high school students ages 16-18. Students will participate in an 80 hour volunteer program for 10 weeks in the Fall season, during which they will learn about the many wonders of the Pacific Ocean and create extraordinary experiences for our guests.

A successful intern will gain the experience necessary to be qualified to work in the customer service industry including basic computer skills, customer service, and other daily activities. Additionally, they will receive regular formal and informal feedback about their progress through the internship.

Program Overview:

Students will learn such skills and qualities as becoming outgoing, service-oriented, patient, friendly, and comfortable in crowds. Service Excellence Interns at the Aquarium of the Pacific are in many ways the “face” of our Aquarium. Our Service Excellence Interns are the first to greet our guests (sometimes up to 10,000 in a single day), and the last to say good-bye as our guests depart. The Service Excellence Interns will leave the program with a very strong aptitude for working with people and understanding of the importance of delivering world class customer service

Students will also participate in 3 workshops to further enhance their learning. The workshop topics may include topics such as: successful interviewing, resume and cover letters, social media, conduct on the job, teamwork, problem solving and leadership development.
