- The Aquarium of the Pacific is committed to securing a healthy and sustainable future for the citizens of California through effective conservation and education programs that engage people of all ages. Private support from individuals, corporations, foundations, and government grants fund these initiatives.
Conservation and Education
The Aquarium of the Pacific is much more than an aquarium. Led by a strategic planning session conducted with the Board of Directors and the staff at the Aquarium, a long-term plan is under development that will position the Aquarium of the Pacific as a leader in environmental and ocean literacy.
Support key conservation and education programs already underway at the Aquarium today by contributing a tax-deductible gift that will fund:
- a collaboration with the World Wildlife Fund to create a long-term sustainable future for the Gulf of California and its residents
- restoration of important kelp forest ecosystems in Laguna Beach and Crystal Cove through the Orange County Kelp Restoration Project (major funding provided by the Croul Family Foundation, Sea World & Bush Gardens Conservation Fund, Norcross Wildlife Foundation, and Crevier BMW)
- captive rearing and education on red abalone (new project with key funding from the National Marine Fisheries Service and the Aquarium’s Marine Conservation Research Institute)

- the Marine Conservation Research Institute (MCRI), a part of the Aquarium, has a mission to expand and enhance the body of scientific knowledge relating to the Pacific Ocean, its inhabitants, and ecosystems and to preserve this valuable resource for future generations through research, conservation, and education focused around the Aquarium of the Pacific. - Aquarium Education Fund supports the entire K-12 program at the Aquarium including more than 40 classroom and theater programs and our outreach vehicle, the Aquarium on Wheels, based on California science standards serving more than 250,000 students and teachers each year
- Aquarium Scholarship Fund benefits low-achieving, high-poverty children by offering free admission, bussing, and educational classes for Title 1 schools
- Cesar Chavez Elementary School Partnership designed to increase primary science education for at-risk underserved students of this inner-city elementary school by providing a comprehensive curriculum for K-5, teacher training, parent involvement, and much more.
