Meet the Experts
Storied Seafood: California Swordfish provides an in-depth look into the California swordfish fishery. Swordfish is a popular seafood item in the U.S. As with any form of food production, fishing for swordfish has benefits and impacts. There are many different stakeholders involved, including fishermen, government regulators and scientists, environmental organizations, research scientists, chefs, seafood suppliers, seafood consumers and the public. Collaborative efforts to create and implement science-based solutions have played a key role in improving the fishery. Fishermen, scientists and regulators are working together to find innovative solutions that are environmentally and economically sustainable.
In additional to researched background information, this project features information and perspectives from people who are involved in this fishery. We interviewed scientists from regulatory, government, and environmental organizations, a fish monger, and fishermen to get different perspectives on this topic. These perspectives are personal views that do not necessarily reflect the position of the Aquarium of the Pacific and its Seafood for the Future program or NOAA Fisheries.
Stay tuned…in the upcoming weeks we will be adding transcripts from our interviews with the experts.
