Aquarium of the Pacific’s 17th Annual Festival of Human Abilities Features Performances and Art Classes for Everyone

Celebrate the talents and creativity of people with disabilities at the Aquarium on the weekend of Jan. 25-26, and enjoy live music, dance, art, and demonstrations.

At the Festival of Human Abilities, visitors can watch performances and learn unique adaptive skills taught by artists and other experts with disabilities.

Experts from Federal and State Agencies, Scientists, and Others Will Join the Aquarium of the Pacific to Discuss the Fate of California’s Offshore Oil Rigs

The forum kicks off with a keynote address by three ocean leaders and a reception on January 12, 2020.

At the Aquarium’s forum, experts will gather to discuss sustainable options for decommissioned oil rigs in Southern California.

Aquarium to Host Dr. Thomas White for a Lecture About Americans’ Skepticism of Climate Change

Dr. White will explore the possibility that the skepticism is the product of a central but potentially dangerous feature of American Culture—“American exceptionalism” during his lecture at the Aquarium of the Pacific on January 7.

Dr. White is the founder and executive producer of IBECC: The International Business Ethics Case Competition and the Conrad N. Hilton Professor in Business Ethics Emeritus at Loyola Marymount University.

Aquarium to Host Film Screening of Sea of Shadows and Panel Discussion on Vaquita Conservation

Panelists include Jośe A. Zertuche-Gonzáles, researcher, Universidad Autónoma de Baja California; Matthes Podolsky, Sea of Shadows filmmaker; and Kim Thompson, director, Seafood for the Future

The Aquarium of the Pacific will host a screening of Sea of Shadows, a documentary from National Geographic Documentary Films and winner of the Sundance audience award, followed by a panel discussion featuring ocean conservation experts and one of the filmmakers.

Endangered Species to Get a Helping Hand as White Abalones Will Be Released to the Wild After Years of Research by Aquarium and Partners

After successful breeding programs and pilot studies, the project partners hope to help this animal rebound in Southern California waters

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) in collaboration with the Aquarium of the Pacific, the UC Davis Bodega Marine Laboratory, the Bay Foundation, Paua Marine Research Group, the California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) and various other partners have been working together to help save the white abalone from extinction.
