Show Your Love of the Ocean on World Ocean Day at the Aquarium

Come see what the Aquarium of the Pacific is doing to help protect and conserve the ocean and how you can be involved.

June 5, 2019

WHAT: On June 8, World Ocean Day, you can show your love for the ocean, learn more about the ways people rely on the ocean, and find out how human activity impacts ocean life at the Aquarium of the Pacific. Visitors will learn about ocean conservation issues at special educational stations throughout the Aquarium and will be able to take #WOD selfies. Visitors will also have the opportunity to learn about the endangered vaquita porpoise, reducing single-use plastics, and biodiversity. The Aquarium will play several shows in the Ocean Science Center highlighting marine debris, sea level rise, marine aquaculture, and ocean health. Visitors can also discover the newly opened Pacific Visions wing to learn more about human impact on our planet and to explore how you can make a difference when it comes to food, water, and energy.

For the past twenty years, Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) member institutions have celebrated our planet with annual Party for the Planet® events. This year, with support from the Disney Conservation Fund, members will be helping their communities “spring into action” with opportunities for families to volunteer to improve our planet. Party for the Planet will wrap up with World Ocean Day, and the Aquarium’s event is part of the celebration highlighting ocean conservation and inspiring us all to work toward a better future for our planet.

In addition to events happening in Los Angeles, signature events have also been taking place in five other cities across the country: Brevard, Fla., Chicago, Ill., New York City, N.Y., Philadelphia, Pa., and San Francisco, Calif. In total, over 120 AZA institutions will have hosted Spring Into Action events during the forty-eight days between Earth Day and World Ocean Day.
