Join the Aquarium of the Pacific for World Ocean Day

Celebrate the ocean with the Aquarium of the Pacific with special online programming and a call to share your ocean-inspired art on June 8, 2020.

June 3, 2020

WHAT: The Aquarium of the Pacific will celebrate World Ocean Day on Monday, June 8, and invites the public to join in with special online programming. Take a virtual journey under the waves and meet some animals as you find out what you can do to help the world ocean, which covers 70 percent of Earth’s surface and remains almost entirely unexplored.

The Aquarium will host online festivities all day to mark World Ocean Day, a global day of ocean celebration and collaboration for a better future. You can tune into the Aquarium’s Facebook for World Ocean Day Live for streaming sessions to get a peek at Aquarium life behind the scenes. The Aquarium’s Online Academy will feature special classes for students in Pre-K to eighth grade in celebration of World Ocean Day. The classes will include ocean art and behind the scenes bonus features, streamed live from 9:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on the Aquarium’s YouTube channel and available on demand after on the Aquarium’s website.

What are you doing to help the ocean? The Aquarium encourages you to draw a picture, make a collage, chalk your sidewalk, post it on social media, tag the Aquarium, and use the hashtag #AOPWorldOceanDay. Some ideas include art of your favorite ocean animal, marine habitat, or ocean conservation action.

The Aquarium’s Pacific Pals characters will also release a special episode of their show The Daily Bubble to celebrate the special day. You can also tune into various animal webcams at the Aquarium of the Pacific any time to watch penguins, sharks, sea jellies, and a variety of fish from local to tropical species.

You can support the nonprofit Aquarium of the Pacific with a donation in celebration of World Ocean Day, start or renew an Aquarium membership, search matching gift options through your company, or shop with Amazon Smile and add the Aquarium as the charity of your choice.
