Endangered Blue Whales Spotted Off Long Beach Identified by the Aquarium’s Research Program

Aquarium of the Pacific and Harbor Breeze Cruises invite press on a boat excursion on Wednesday, July 3, for the chance to witness the largest whales on Earth

July 3, 2019

Endangered blue whales and fin whales are the largest whales on the planet and are being spotted in the waters off Long Beach. The Aquarium of the Pacific and Harbor Breeze Cruises invite the media to set sail for the chance to see these whales while learning recent findings about them and other whales on Wednesday, July 3. Members of the media will board the M/V La Espada, the specialized high-speed, custom-built whale watching catamaran docked next to the Aquarium. Experts from the Aquarium’s blue whale photo ID program will discuss recent findings about Southern California’s endangered blue whale population and reveal how we can identify individual whales spotted in local urban waters. Blue whales are the largest animal on the planet and frequent Southern California’s urban ocean during the summer—a busy and bustling place used intensely by both people and wildlife.
