WHAT: Learn about the important role bees play in our ecosystem at the Aquarium of the Pacific’s First Wednesdays on September 7, 2022, at 7:00 p.m. You can join nature educator and beekeeper Emilie Usher as she discusses the world inside the honeybee hive, the lives of the other important pollinators who support our food system, and the role urban beekeeping can play in raising awareness.

Usher works with Alvéole: The Urban Beekeeping Company, which installs honeybee hives in urban areas to help foster environmental awareness and inspire people to protect bees and other pollinators. One in every three bites of food we eat depends on pollination by honeybees and other pollinators. Yet the average person knows very little about the lives of these important creatures and the realities they face.

During her talk at the Aquarium Usher will share with attendees about bee colonies and how their world operates. Usher is a nature educator and beekeeper based in Vancouver, British Columbia. She helps people connect with nature by introducing them to the diverse world of pollinators who share our spaces and play a vital role in our food system.

The talk will take place in the Aquarium’s Honda Pacific Visions Theater. It will also include a question-and-answer session with the audience. This event will include a cocktail and social hour immediately following the talk allowing attendees to socialize with other guests. There will be honey tastings, bee-themed souvenirs, honey pots, and music. Advanced online registration is required to attend in person. First Wednesdays talks will also be live streamed for those unable to join in person.
