Kera Mathes

Kera Mathes is the Aquarium’s resident whale expert.

She coordinates a program in which photographs of whales along with coordinates and behavior notes are taken during the Aquarium’s daily whale watch cruises to help identify the individual whales and species visiting the waters off Long Beach and surrounding areas to aid in learning more about species to help further conservation research. Her areas of expertise include blue, gray, humpback, fin, and other types of whales and animals found in local waters as well as whale behaviors, migration, and research.
