Boat Programs Coordinator
James Stewart is the Aquarium’s resident whale expert.
He coordinates a program in which photographs of whales along with coordinates and behavior notes are taken during the Aquarium’s daily whale watch cruises to help identify the individual whales and species visiting the waters off Long Beach and surrounding areas to aid in learning more about species to help further conservation research. He also coordinates the naturalists who staff the daily watches, training them and providing content that is used to educate and provide interpretation to the guests about the local sea life observed during their whale watch. His areas of expertise include blue, gray, humpback, fin, and other types of whales and animals found in local waters, as well as whale behaviors, migration, and research.
