Bill Sargent
Sea Level Rise: The Chatham Story (with book signing)
On April 15th, 2007 a new inlet broke through the barrier beach that protects Pleasant Bay in Massachusetts.
Overnight the town of Chatham had to face more sea level rise than most communities will face in the next fifty years and is now faced with a new inlet that is aimed at the heart of the village. Bill Sargent will chronicle the changes brought about by the break up of Nauset Beach where the town faces the collapse of the third most lucrative fishing port in New England. Sargent considers Chatham to be the canary in the coal mine, forecasting similar problems that over 200 other coastal communities in the United States will face.
Sargent, also the author of Crab Wars: A Tale of Horseshoe Crabs and Storm Surge: A Coastal Village Battles the Rising Atlantic, is a consultant for the NOVA Science series.
Two of Bill Sargent’s books, Sea Level Rise: The Chatham Story and Just Seconds From the Ocean will be available for sale at Pacific Collections gift shop.
