Aquarium Event
Underwater Parks Day
Whether they are called underwater parks, marine reserves, or marine protected areas (MPAs), these areas are designated to protect underwater ocean resources along California’s 1,100 miles of coast for future generations.
MPAs have been designated in Central and North Central California as part of our coastal marine area reserve network. The process is now underway that will determine where MPAs will be located in Southern California.
Join the Aquarium of the Pacific to learn more about the process of designating MPAs and how you can be involved in this project that is heavily dependent on public input. Speakers, presentations, interactive activities, and handouts will help visitors learn more about California’s Marine Life Protect Act, how it is designed to preserve and improve California coastal marine resources, and how they can be involved in the selection process. Similar activities are also being held on January 17 at Cabrillo Marine Aquarium in San Pedro, the Ocean Institute in Dana Point, and the Birch Aquarium/Museum at Scripps in La Jolla.
