Strategies to Enhance Ocean Literacy
Join Louisa Koch as she discusses the strategies of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) to educate the public about the ocean and its changes.
She will discuss ways in which people can learn about the ocean and behaviors that are good for the environment. Koch is NOAA’s director of education, responsible for educating the public about the role of the ocean, coasts, Great Lakes, and atmosphere in the global environment as well as for developing the next generation of professionals capable of understanding and managing those resources. Koch served as NOAA’s deputy assistant administrator for Research in Silver Spring, Maryland from 1998 through 2005. She also served as a presidential management intern at the Department of Defense and as an economist with the Joint Economic Committee in the U.S. Congress. She holds a Master’s in electrical engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and a Bachelors degree in physics from Middlebury College in Vermont.
