Happiness: How Companies & Countries Flourish When They Promote It

Chip Conley

Long Beach native Chip Conley, the founder and CEO of Joie de Vivre Hospitality—the nation's 2nd largest boutique hotelier (and the operator of the Hotel Maya), comes back to Long Beach to speak at the TED conference which starts on February 9.

Conley will talk at the Aquarium about why corporate and political leaders need to become more focused on valuing and measuring the intangibles in life—those items that bring value to companies and bring joy to citizens—and why this is particularly necessary for the 21st century. This provocative discussion will range from why we love the MasterCard "Priceless" commercial to why 40 countries in the world are now emulating Bhutan's Gross National Happiness index (Conley spent a week there last spring and met with the Prime Minister) to why Joie de Vivre's hotel maids, who clean toilets for a living, think of their work as a calling. Be ready for an interesting discussion.
