Aquarium Event
Earth Day Celebration
A Celebration of our Ocean Planet
Learn what you can do for the environment during a weekend of family fun.
Children will enjoy face painting and other activities. Guests will have the opportunity to visit educational booths from over one dozen “green” organizations. Representatives from favorites like the Marine Mammal Care Center, American Cetacean Society, California Coastal Commission, the Sierra Club, Heal the Bay, and others will share information and answer questions about their mission and environmentally conscientious products and services.
The Aquarium’s Earth Day celebration will illustrate how what we do in our daily lives affects our world. In fun and exciting ways, we will share knowledge on how to conserve our resources and preserve our environment for ourselves and generations to come. Be a part of this annual event honoring our beautiful ocean planet Earth.
Please note that this year’s Earth Day celebration is taking place the weekend before Earth Day, as the Aquarium will be closed on Friday, April 18 through Sunday, April 20 while the Grand Prix of Long Beach takes place.
During the weekend of our Earth Day Celebration, we will be offering a special discount to those that bring in a piece of e-waste to be recycled. Any guest who brings in one of the following items and presents it at the eWaste Inc booth in front of the Aquarium will receive a coupon valid on April 12 or 13 for $10 off one adult admission, which they can use at the ticket window.
E-waste items: computer towers and monitors, tvs, printers, fax machines, scanners, paper shredders, copy machines, radios, turntables, amplifiers, audio and video cassette recorders, compact disc/DVD players, speakers, camcorders, cameras, cell phones, electric typewriters, and calculators.
eWaste Inc, approved by the state of California, will process these materials by crushing and shredding them, turning old equipment into useable plastic, glass, and metal. Electronic waste is the fastest growing form of waste in the world. By providing this service to the public at the Aquarium's Earth Day Celebration, the Aquarium and eWaste wish to keep these items from damaging the environment and educate the public about the environmental hazards of improperly disposing of electronic devices.
