The Aquarium has developed a new free app for Android smartphones and the iPhone called Jelly Lab that lets users virtually raise a sea jelly, learn more about the sea jelly lifecycle, and see how staff members care for these animals at the Aquarium.
After downloading Jelly Lab, users can pick a sea jelly egg to raise. As the virtual sea jelly grows, users must clean its tank and feed it to keep the sea jelly healthy. Users receive notifications to let them know when the sea jelly needs care. As each task is completed, information and fun facts pop up to let users learn more about sea jellies. If successful, they will watch their jelly transform in stages from an egg to an adult, which they can keep and interact with on their smartphone. Users can raise two sea jellies at a time in Jelly Lab.
The app is geared toward all ages, and it is available in both the Apple and Google Play stores.
