Get into the holiday spirit December 2 through 24 during the month-long Aquarium Holidays celebration. Aquarium Holidays features special holiday décor, a display of gingerbread houses, daily Penguin Walks at 10 a.m., snowfall in the Great Hall, daily screenings of the original cartoon Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas, a special holiday menu in Café Scuba, and daily appearances by Santa Diver and the Aquarium characters in their holiday outfits. On weekends the Aquarium will have a snow play area, children’s crafts, and photo opportunities with Santa. Aquarium Holidays kicks off with the Holiday Treats for the Animals festival on December 2 and 3. This festival features all of the Aquarium Holidays components, plus special decorations in the Aquarium’s exhibits and visits by Santa Diver, who will deliver gifts of treats to the penguins, sea otters, seals, sea lions, lorikeets, and fish.
Saturday, December 23, is Member Holiday Night at the Aquarium. Members will have the chance to take photos with Santa by the Aquarium’s tree, see snowfall in the Great Hall, make a craft with the kids, and do any last-minute shopping with a special 30 percent discount in the gift store. Café Scuba will be open with a special holiday menu and drinks will be available for purchase at the cash bar.
Winter Day Camp for kids ages seven to twelve will be held December 27 through 29 and feature topics like migrations, cold water habitats, and animals of the North and South Poles. Campers will learn about marine life through hands-on activities, games, and crafts. Participants will even get the chance to go behind-the-scenes at the Aquarium, meet the animal husbandry staff, and help take care of some of the animals that make their home at the Aquarium. Participants will note their experiences throughout the week in a keepsake journal. Visit the camps page to see full details and register. A special overnight camp program for teens will be held on December 27, with a pizza party, remotely operated vehicle (ROV) obstacle course, and classroom program on bioluminescence. The Aquarium will host its second annual New Year’s Eve Night Dive on Sunday, December 31, with live bands, cash bars, and a midnight countdown. Tickets are $29.95 ($24.95 for members), and doors open at 8:00 p.m. Visit the event page for details and tickets.
