Each year the Aquarium of the Pacific holds a festival celebrating the convergence of wildlife, industry, recreation, and nature that takes place off the coast of Southern California in our urban ocean. This year’s Urban Ocean Festival will be held on May 5 and 6 and will feature contests for art, poetry, and fashion that use a variety of media to communicate ideas about the urban ocean.
Winners in each contest will be recognized and their work will be featured during the festival weekend. Cash prizes will be awarded to the winners. Poetry and artwork submitted for the contests must have an urban ocean theme, while the Trashin’ Fashion contest will feature designs made of recycled materials. The goal of the fashion contest is draw awareness to issues of pollution and creating a sustainable relationship with our urban ocean.
