On November 2, the Aquarium hosted U.S. Congressional Representatives Alan Lowenthal of California and Garret Graves of Louisiana for a meeting and tour of the new Pacific Visions wing. The visit was part of the American Congressional Exchange initiated by the Bipartisan Policy Center.

Exterior construction and landscaping has been completed for Pacific Visions, the Aquarium’s first major expansion, which opens to the public on May 24, 2019.

The Aquarium celebrated a milestone in the construction of its expansion, the Pacific Visions wing, when the construction crew installed the last exterior glass panel on the façade.

The Aquarium has created a new giving opportunity for individuals, corporations, and foundations wishing to contribute to Pacific Visions and commemorate their ties to the Aquarium.

The topping-off ceremony is a tradition among builders in which the last steel beam is installed in the building’s structure.

Commemorative bricks originally installed in the Aquarium’s front plaza are being safely stored during construction.

The Pacific Visions wing, the first major expansion project ever undertaken by the Aquarium, will be a 29,000-square-foot, two-story structure.

In the second half of 2016, the Aquarium’s Pacific Visions Campaign secured major gifts and reached a total of $42 million toward the $53 million goal. In addition, actress Cameron Diaz has contributed a testimonial in support of the Aquarium’s efforts.

In July The Ahmanson Foundation made a significant pledge to the Aquarium’s Pacific Visions campaign, becoming one of the project’s major donors.

Major expansion with addition of new wing will include an immersive theater, special exhibition and art gallery spaces, and animal exhibits.
