The Aquarium of the Pacific is mourning the passing of Odin, one of its most beloved California sea lions. Odin passed away Sunday afternoon moments after a sudden onset of tremors. Prior to this, Odin’s behavior had been normal.

Penguins Stranded in Brazil Arrive at Aquarium of the Pacific

On April 7, the Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach welcomed five rescued Magellanic penguins, becoming the first penguins in the Aquarium’s collections. Experts believe climate change may be causing Magellanic penguins to travel farther in search of food, stranding them outside their usual range.

Aquarium’s Sea Otter Charlie to Participate in Auditory Study

In April one of the Aquarium of the Pacific’s five southern sea otters will travel north to Santa Cruz, California to participate in an auditory study. This study is being conducted by researchers at the Pinniped Cognition & Sensory Systems Laboratory based at the Long Marine Lab at the University of California, Santa Cruz.

Aquarium of the Pacific Mourns the Loss of Miller the Sea Lion

March 16, 2011, Long Beach, CA—The Aquarium of the Pacific is mourning the loss of one of its most beloved animals, Miller the California sea lion. Miller was the fifth oldest male sea lion in any zoological institution and had recently “retired” to the Aquarium’s behind-the-scenes area for marine mammals.

Thursday, December 9, 2010, Long Beach, CA—Aquarium visitors have the chance to take a sneak a peek of the newest furry baby animal at the nonprofit Aquarium of the Pacific through daily Behind-the-Scenes Tours starting this Friday, Dec. 10. The three-month old orphaned otter was stranded and rescued off of Santa Cruz when she was just weeks old.
