Aquarium Announces Raffle Winner

October 28, 2008—Long Beach, CA The Aquarium of the Pacific is pleased to announce that Kathie Nash from Yorba Linda is the winner of the 2008 Honda Dream Big Raffle. Because of the support of American Honda Motor Co. Inc. and all those who purchased tickets, the Aquarium raised almost $70,000 towards its education and conservation programs.

Our Watersheds: Pathway to the Pacific

On November 15, 2008 the Aquarium opened its new watershed environmental exhibition, classroom, and native garden, Our Watersheds: Pathway to the Pacific. This exhibit gives visitors the opportunity to learn more about our local watersheds and what we can each do to protect them. It also teaches guests about sustainable water use options now and for the future.

In celebration of its 10th anniversary, the Aquarium is honoring students in the community who have shown outstanding efforts in the areas of science, environment, ocean science/marine biology, promoting cultural diversity, and exceptional community service.

Aquarium Brings Together Stakeholders to Deal with Looming Seafood Crisis

The Aquarium of the Pacific brought together government agencies, entrepreneurs, environmentalists, and other stakeholders this past week to look at solutions for dealing with the looming seafood crisis. Over 2/3 of the world’s wild fish stocks are currently fished at or over sustainable levels, and it is predicted that the entire wild seafood industry could collapse in 50 years unless solutions are sought today.

Eight Aquarium of the Pacific Students Win National Coastal America Ocean Art Contest

In an event today the Aquarium of the Pacific announced that eight of its students are among the 20 national winners of the Coastal America Ocean Art Contest. The students were among thousands across the country who participated in the competition on the importance of the ocean. The first and second place students will fly to a special ceremony in Washington, D.C. on September 26 and the art of all eight students will be in a four-month exhibition at the National Museum of Natural History. Reproductions of their winning artwork will also be on display at the Aquarium of the Pacific through December 31, 2008.
