Using Chemistry to Study Marine Mammal Diets
Differences in diet among individuals of the same species is increasingly recognized as an important component of diversity in food webs. Seth Newsome discusses a chemical approach to quantifying patterns of individual dietary specialization in a wide range of marine and terrestrial mammalian carnivores, including sea otters, pinnipeds, and canids. Dr. Newsome is a research scientist in the zoology and physiology department at the University of Wyoming. He spoke at the Aquarium on June 14, 2012.
