Lecture Archive: The Aquarium’s Largest Exhibit, Part Two

Presented by the Aquarium's Husbandry Department

Posted: October 8, 2020

Lecture date: September 23, 2020. In the second installment of a two-part series, Curator of Fish and Invertebrates Nate Jaros will lead a presentation on the Aquarium’s largest exhibit, the Tropical Reef Habitat and its care and maintenance.

Along with Assistant Curator Janet Monday, Aquarist II Lauren Samarov, Dive Safety Officer Grady Scallon, and Life Support Manager Chris Carr, Jaros draws back the curtain to show what goes into caring for this aquarium system.

The team discusses how they keep the water pristine in an aquarium with about 1,000 fish. Plus, learn about what goes into the exhibit’s maintenance, cleaning, and exhibit interpretation for Aquarium visitors, much of which is done by staff members working underwater.
