Lecture date: January 8, 2013.
Learn about endangered Yellow-Eyed Penguins native to New Zealand and nearby islands. This species of penguin is on the International Union for Conservation of Nature’s Red List of Threatened Species. While on sabbatical in New Zealand, William Cooper had the opportunity to work with John Darby, an expert on Yellow-Eyed Penguins. Through this relationship, Cooper was able to visit nesting areas, spending approximately 400 hours on the beach with the penguins. Cooper is a professor of civil and environmental engineering and director of the Urban Water Research Center at the University of California, Irvine.
