The Aquarium’s southern sea otter Charlie participated in a year-long study of how sea otters perceive sound at the Cognition and Sensory Systems Laboratory, based at the University of California, Santa Cruz’s Long Marine Lab. On June 25, 2013, Laboratory Research Coordinator Asila Ghoul discussed the sensory systems of sea otters and how these amphibious animals are adapted for an aquatic lifestyle.
