10 Year Anniversary Photo Contest

Do you have a photo that you took at the Aquarium of the Pacific that you are especially proud of? Charlie the sea otter just happened to stop in time for you to take a photo, your daughter gazing at the majesty of a sea nettle, or your grandfather touching a shark for the very first time. These are all special moments, and we want you to share them with us. You might even win a prize!
From now and through August 15th, 2008, you can submit your favorite Aquarium photo to have a chance to win some great prizes. Start digging through your photo albums, shoe boxes, folders, and DVDs. You just might have the winning photo!
As part of our 10 Year Anniversary celebrations, we will select 10 winning photos. Here is what you can win:
- Grand Prize winner will receive a Westin Long Beach Getaway Package to Long Beach, CA that includes: a two-night stay, four tickets to the Aquarium of the Pacific, four behind-the-scenes tour passes (must meet minimum age requirements to redeem), four tickets to a Harbor Cruise (courtesy of Harbor Breeze Cruises), four tickets to the Queen Mary, four tickets to the Museum of Latin American Art, and two $20 gift certificates to Bubba Gump’s Shrimp Co. The grand prize winning photo will get published prominently in our member magazine Pacific Currents. Additionally, you will receive a $50 gift certificate to Best Buy (courtesy of our local Long Beach Best Buy Store), an SLR Gorillapod (courtesy of Joby), and a full sheet of PhotoStamps featuring your winning photo (courtesy of Stamps.com).
- Second Place will receive a $25 gift certificate to Best Buy, SLR Gorillapod, a full sheet of PhotoStamps featuring your winning photo, and six tickets to visit the Aquarium of the Pacific.
- Third Place will receive a $25 gift certificate to Best Buy, SLR Gorillapod, a full sheet of PhotoStamps featuring your winning photo, and four tickets to visit the Aquarium of the Pacific.
- Seven Honorable mentions will win one sheet of PhotoStamps featuring their winning photo, two tickets to visit the Aquarium of the Pacific, and a $10 gift certificate to Best Buy. Additionally, two blue original Gorillapods will be given away to two randomly selected honorable mention winners.
IMPORTANT NOTICE: Our contest uses Flickr.com, a free photo sharing website. Once you click on the links to take you to our group, you will leave the Aquarium site and be taken to the Flickr website. Flickr is a community photo sharing website that allows members to upload photos to their website for free. While we have required that subscribers to our photo feed on Flickr maintain only family friendly content on their individual accounts, the Aquarium of the Pacific has no control over other contacts on the Flickr site. If you have any concerns regarding the content of Flickr, we suggest you do not click off our site.
How to participate:
- Locate the photo that you want to send in. If it is not a digital file, please scan in your photo. Only electronic submissions will be accepted.
- Make sure that the photo is at least 2048x1536 pixels.
- Register for a free account at Flickr, or login.
- Upload your photo.
- Give it a title, and if you like, you can tell us a little about what is going on in the photo in the description.
- Important: YOU MUST TAG YOUR SINGLE PHOTO WITH aopcontest0806. This is what tells us that you are submitting the photo for the contest and not just for our Flickr Photo Pool.
- Join the Official Aquarium of the Pacific Photo Pool and submit your photo to it.

Tips:
- Try to minimize your use of flash indoors (there are a couple of exhibits with posted signs where we ask you to never use flash like the sea dragon exhibit). Most of the time, it will bounce right off the acrylic and create a bright spot on your photo while it darkens everything in the exhibit behind the acrylic.
- Tripods are not allowed in the Aquarium as it can cause a safety hazard.
- Early mornings and late afternoons are some of the best times to visit with your camera because there tend to be less guests visiting.
- You can submit as many photos as you like to the Aquarium of the Pacific Photo Pool but you can only tag one photo with aopcontest0806 as your official entry.
- You may change your entry as many times as you like until the deadline at which point your entry is final.
