Dr. Roy Houston is a Professor of Biology at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles, where he is in charge of the marine biology program. At LMU he teaches various courses in Marine Biology and Marine Ecology. Dr. Houston is also the founder and Director of the Loyola Marymount University Baja California Biological Station which is located south of San Felipe, Baja California, Mexico. Every summer for the past 29 years he has given an upper division field course called Marine Ecology of Baja California and has published a field guide on the natural history of desert and marine life in the area. In addition, Dr. Houston is on the visiting faculty of the Roatan Institute for Marine Sciences where he teaches Tropical Marine Ecology and has been involved with coral reef monitoring projects. He and his LMU students are active in local underwater research projects along the coast of California and Baja California.

Dr. Houston is both a NAUI and PADI Instructor and a member of the American Academy of Underwater Sciences (AAUS) where he is the Dive Safety Officer at LMUand a former member of the national Board of Directors for AAUS. In addition, he is a member of the Dive Control Board at the Aquarium of the Pacific where he helps with the AAUS Scientific Diver Certification Course. He is also a member of the Scientific Advisory Committee at the Aquarium and a board member of the Marine Conservation Research Institute. In addition, Roy is a recentl member of Reef Check and will be involved in Reef Check training programs. In addition, he is a member of the Dive Control Board for the Cabrillo Marine Aquarium.
