Dr. Krista Kamer

Profile of Krista Kamer

Dr. Kamer is the Director of the California State University (CSU) Council on Ocean Affairs, Science & Technology (COAST), the umbrella organization for marine and coastal-related research and educational activities within the CSU. She received her doctorate in Biology from UCLA in 2000 and was a staff scientist at the Southern California Coastal Water Research Project (SCCWRP) from 2000-2003. Her research expertise is in nutrient loading and macroalgal community dynamics in southern California estuaries. From 2003-2008 she was at Moss Landing Marine Laboratories and became involved with federally- and State-funded ocean observing efforts and multi-campus CSU initiatives. Since 2008 Dr. Kamer has lead the development of COAST, which brings together hundreds of faculty from a multitude of disciplines throughout the CSU. Her current focus is on promoting faculty research and providing unique educational opportunities to students while helping the State of California develop solutions to coastal and marine ecological, environmental and economic issues.
