On Sunday, November 17, the Aquarium of the Pacific will present a special day and evening dedicated to everyone’s favorite porous friend, SpongeBob SquarePants, and his Bikini Bottom friends from the Nickelodeon hit animated series SpongeBob SquarePants. Activities will include costumed character appearances, free showings of the new 4D film, SpongeBob SquarePants 4D: The Great Jelly Rescue!, and an opportunity to meet the real-life sea creatures in the Aquarium’s exhibits.
From 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., SpongeBob and his starfish friend, Patrick, will make special appearances for meet-and-greet and photo opportunities. There will also be showings of favorite SpongeBob SquarePants episodes from the Nickelodeon animated series.
Starting at 9:30 a.m., there will be hourly showings on the half hour of the brand-new 4D experience SpongeBob SquarePants 4D: The Great Jelly Rescue! Guests will join SpongeBob, Patrick, and Sandy on a wild 4D adventure to rescue the jellyfish of Jellyfish Fields from Plankton’s evil clutches. With stunning 3-D graphics and a dramatic assortment of scents and sounds, viewers will surf through the electrifying swarm of jellies, get dragged into the bowels of the Flying Dutchman’s ghost ship, and even feel the rumble of a cannon. The theatre experience is a partnership between Nickelodeon, SimEx-Iwerks Entertainment, and Super 78 Studios.
Additional themed activities will continue exclusively for Aquarium members, including music, special giveaways, and more from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. as part of Member Discovery Night.
Since its launch in July 1999, SpongeBob SquarePants has emerged as a pop culture phenomenon. The series has been the most-watched animated program with kids 2-11 for more than 12 consecutive years, and over the past several years, it has averaged more than 100,000,000 total viewers every quarter across all Nickelodeon networks. As the most widely distributed property in Viacom history, SpongeBob SquarePants is seen in over 170 countries and translated in more than 35 languages. The character-driven cartoon chronicles the nautical and sometimes nonsensical adventures of SpongeBob, an incurably optimist and earnest sea sponge, and his undersea friends.
