In celebration of the 25th anniversary of Shark Week, join Discovery Channel, Charter Communications, and the Aquarium of the Pacific at a special advance screening of Sharkzilla on the Aquarium’s front lawn. Sharkzilla brings to life megalodon, a shark from prehistoric times and the largest shark to ever swim our oceans. See Sharkzilla swimming in Rainbow Harbor, get your photo taken with the 7-foot fin, win Shark Week prizes, meet the Aquarium’s shark mascot, and more. Shark Week starts on the Discovery Channel on Sunday, August 12.
John Tindall, Sharkzilla’s director and the designer and builder of the fin replica, will give attendees a bite of the action as he shares his experience in the creation of Sharkzilla. Sharkzilla follows the resurrection of the largest shark to ever swim in our oceans: the Megalodon. Matching the size of a humpback whale, these sharks, now extinct, were 52 feet long and weighed 100,000 pounds. But unlike a humpback, Megalodons had 250 teeth, each six inches long, set in jaws six feet wide and eight feet tall. Sharkzilla follows a crew as they come together to design and build the largest shark ever to live on the planet. With massive hydraulic jaws that will snap shut with enough force to bite through a car, Discovery enlisted the help of Mythbusters’ Kari Byron, Grant Imahara and Tori Belleci to put these chompers to the test.
The Aquarium will close at 6:00 p.m. but please join us on our front lawn after-hours for this special free event.
