With the recent mudslides, devastating fires, and high winds that accompanied many of the fires, water is again center stage in California. With California’s role in agriculture, this issue has national implications; it has been calculated that every person in the U.S. consumes 300 gallons of California water in the food they eat. Legal issues like prior appropriation water rights, Southern California’s reliance on water imported from Northern California and the Colorado River, and a changing climate all play our water future.
