Teachers dig through a mud trawl looking for sea life

The Aquarium of the Pacific, through a generous grant from The Boeing Company, is proud to offer the 2017 Boeing Teacher Institute. The institute will take place from Thursday, July 27th to Monday, July 31st. The Aquarium will be partnering with the University of Southern California’s SeaGrant for this year’s institute. Up to 30 teachers will be invited to this week long intensive introduction to the Aquarium, Southern California’s diverse ecosystems, and current research being conducted by local scientists. The program includes:

  • Two days at the Aquarium of the Pacific including Aquarium and USC SeaGrant teacher resources with an emphasis on data-related resources and behind-the-scenes tours
  • Three days on Catalina Island at the USC Wrigley Campus for Environmental Studies with experiential learning opportunities such as kayaking, snorkeling, hiking, and live plankton exploration.
  • Continuing involvement in an on-line professional development community.

Application deadline is May 12, 2017. Selected participants will be notified by mid-June.

Teachers not selected for the summer program are invited to participate in a teacher workshop hosted by the Aquarium on Saturday, November 11, 2017. Thank you for your interest in the Aquarium of the Pacific’s 2017 Boeing Teacher Institute!
