Join the Long Beach Ballet as it presents a production inspired by the ocean and the Aquarium of the Pacific.
Guardians captures the ever-changing relationship of humans with the ocean, particularly with the Urban Ocean along the Southern California coast, where it supports a large human population and diverse and abundant marine life.
Expressed through exquisite movement choreographed by Johnny Zhong and directed by David Wilcox, this beautiful and inspirational ballet evokes the tranquility, exotic rhythms, and myriad challenges of life under the sea. It takes the audience on a journey through time starting with the chaotic formation of the universe and Earth through the emergence of man, the domination and degradation of the earth and ocean by the growing human population and its over-consumption, followed by a reawakening of the human spirit, which leads to a strong environmental and ocean ethic. In the triumphant finale humans embrace their role as Guardians of the planet and live in harmony with Mother Earth’s natural support system that sustains all life.
Doors open at 7:30 p.m. Performances begin at 8:00 p.m.
