Prospect Research Analyst
Responsible for identifying, researching, compiling biographical or institutional information, tracking, rating, and monitoring prospects for gifts of $1,000 or more - including individuals, corporations, foundations, and government sources - for the entire development department.
Essential Functions
- Create a prospect research program by: generating continuous flow of new prospects; researching corporations, foundations, and individuals; creating a tracking system; evaluating current Aquarium of the Pacific donors; using databases to research local, regional, state, and national prospects appropriate for the Aquarium.
- Conduct an electronic screening process working with Blackbaud to evaluate all Aquarium members and donors (past and present) and ensure that all pertinent information provided by the outside service is maintained in Blackbaud Raiser's Edge 7. Manage this process in a meticulous manner, ensuring a continuous flow of rated prospects which can be cultivated and solicited in a timeframe which ensures that the information is current and accurate.
- Create profiles for all prospects of $10,000 and more; suggest most likely interest for those prospects, matching them with an Aquarium goal or program; track important biographical information; suggest personal connections that can be utilized; suggest appropriate intial and long-term gift amounts.
- Produce weekly and monthly tracking reports to: VP Development, Corporate & Foundation Relations Manager, Major Gift and Capital Campaign Manager, and other appropriate staff members.
Knowledge & Skills
- Familiarity with techniques of prospect research and electronic information gathering and screening required.
- Previous use of research information databases (lexus nexus, wealth engine, Hoovers's, etc.) and fundraising information sources (Foundation Center, Chronicle of Philanthropy, etc.) required.
- Previous fundraising research experience with traditional information sources required.
- Imaginative use of nontraditional internet search engines and on-line information retrieval services preferred.
- Knowledge of basic fundraising techniques required.
- Extensive computer skills especially with database applications.
- Ability to organize and synthesize essential information and present information in highly usable form on a timely basis.
- Strong writing skills.
- Experience with Blackbaud Raisers Edge 7 strongly preferred.
- Experience with capital campaigns a plus.
Qualifications
- Minimum of three years of related experience in fund raising for non-profit organizations
- Experience with cultural organizations is preferred
