Education Presenter (Seasonal)
Part-time, $9.50/hourly, seasonal position
Give presentations at specific, assigned Aquarium habitats. Interact one on one with guests discussing animal behavior, fun facts and interpreting habitats at various exhibits. Ensure guests interact safely with animals while encountering touch exhibits as well as informing them about the animals.
Knowledge and Skills
- Be a proactive ambassador for the Aquarium.
- Impart knowledge of animals in an educational and entertaining manner.
- Interact positively with guests, staff, and volunteers.
- Interact one on one with guests, discussing animal behavior, fun facts, and interpreting habitats of various exhibits.
- Ensure guests interact safely with animals while encountering touch exhibits, as well as informing them about the animals.
- Offer “service excellence” to internal and external customers at all times.
Knowledge and Skills
- Experience in public speaking.
- Experience in guest relations or guest services.
- Fundamental knowledge and understanding of basic biological concepts and capacity to learn new concepts quickly.
Qualifications
- High school education or equivalent.
- Ability to memorize basic scripts.
- Ability to grasp and interpret basic animal behaviors, adaptations and habitats.
- Ability to deliver information in an enthusiastic and sincere manner.
- Ability to communicate effectively with a diverse audience.
- Ability to use audio equipment and props.
- Marine biology coursework a strong plus!
Physical Demands
- This position requires long periods of standing and walking.
Work Environment
- Work is primarily in public areas of the Aquarium.
- Props, microphones or other amplification equipment, and podiums or risers are part of the work environment.
