Guest Services Associate - TEMPORARY, SEASONAL

Entry Level, $8.50/hr

Are you outgoing, service-oriented, patient, friendly, and comfortable in crowds? Guest Services Associates at the Aquarium of the Pacific are in many ways the “face” of our Aquarium. Our Guest Services Associates are the first to greet our guests (sometimes up to 10,000 in a single day), and the last to say good-bye as our guests depart. We prefer applicants with a successful customer service background, but we will consider training applicants who demonstrate a very strong aptitude for working with people and understand the importance of delivering world-class customer service. We are looking for temporary staff for the summer season only.

THE GUEST SERVICES ASSOCIATE’S RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Delivering high quality, guest friendly service
  • Serving guests in a speedy and efficient manner
  • Meeting and greeting the public
  • Working in the ticket office, at front doors, will call, and the Information Desk
  • Selling memberships
  • Greeting school buses and coordinating school arrivals
  • Managing lines appropriately
  • Answering general questions from guests
  • Meeting and greeting at some of the exhibits
  • Providing accurate information about all Aquarium programs and offerings
  • Assisting with night events
  • Interacting with guests as costume characters
  • Exercising active listening skills and positive body language through smiling, sustaining eye contact, keeping good posture, and speaking clearly

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Available during weekends and holidays
  • Available to work a flexible schedule during hours of operation (9:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. everyday; late nights until 10:00 p.m.)
  • Must be at least 16 years of age
  • Previous customer service experience is preferred but not required

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

  • Effective communication skills
  • PC knowledge
  • Basic data entry skills
  • Basic math skills

FULL TIME, ELIGIBLE FOR BENEFITS

The Facilities department is currently looking for a skilled generalist, performing at a journey-level in HVAC and electrical with strong skills in other trades. The skills to be considered are mechanical/machinery repair, plumbing, carpentry and general fabrication. Aquarium Facilities Technicians perform a variety of skilled preventive and general maintenance, repair, construction and renovation work to the facility and systems.

THE FACILITIES TECHNICIAN’S RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Performing daily inspections/rounds of all facilities equipment
  • Performing preventive/routine maintenance of all facilities equipment
  • Installing, modifying, troubleshooting and repairing electrical/mechanical equipment throughout the facility
  • Interfacing and communicating successfully with coworkers and members of other departments within the Aquarium
  • Providing daily technical support to the husbandry staff as needed to ensure a healthy environment for the animal collection

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum of four years hands-on facilities or combination of facilities and life support experience
  • Minimum of two years journey-level experience as an electrician is required
  • Certificate of completion for a program in HVAC, machinery repair or any other related trade is highly desirable
  • Certified State of California electrician is desired

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

  • Working knowledge of materials, methods, equipment and tools in related trade areas pertaining to facilities, systems, construction and renovation
  • Thorough knowledge of generally accepted trade practices in trade specialties
  • Working knowledge or the ability to learn computerized maintenance and building automation systems
  • Working knowledge of applicable building and safety codes and regulations pertaining to facilities, systems and renovations
  • Must be able to demonstrate journey-level skill in one trade and strong skills in other applicable trades
  • Ability to use typical power tools and equipment associated with the trades
  • Ability to read, interpret and work from blueprints, plans, drawings and specifications
  • Ability to maintain records and retrieve data related to work performed using manual and/or computerized record-keeping systems
  • Willingness to work weekends on a rotating basis and off-hours as needed
  • Ability to provide instruction to unskilled and semi-skilled assistants
  • Ability to analyze and respond to emergencies
  • Ability to use considerable judgment and discretion in performing duties, with a constant awareness of safety and all regulations pertaining thereto
