The Security Manager is responsible for a safe environment for all guests, staff and vendors of the Aquarium of the Pacific. This position reports to the Sr. Manager, Guest Services and Operations.
The Security Manager’s Responsibilities Include:
- Serving as part of the rotating Manager on Duty “Ops. 1” schedule, responsible for the day-to-day operations for the Guest Services/Operations department
- Hiring, training, supervising and evaluating the Security staff members, with the assistance of the Assistant Manager of Security
- Ordering, distributing, retrieving, monitoring and maintaining all facility keys and all aspects of key control
- Serving as a member of the Aquarium of the Pacific Emergency Operations Center team, dedicated to managing any emergency situation that arises including, but not limited to, fire alarms, ozone alarms, bomb threats, earthquakes, floods, animal release, etc., requiring collective Aquarium of the Pacific response
- Establishing and maintaining relationships with city divisions such as Police Department, Fire Department, Parks Recreation and Marine, Parking and Traffic Management Organization, City Prosecutor’s Office, and Long Beach Transit
- Being responsible for the ordering, maintaining and repair of all hand held radios
- Managing key relationships with security vendors
- Providing in-depth support to various internal departments on event planning, staging, flow control
- Being responsible for the care and maintenance of the CCTV system
- Overseeing the performance of all security staff
Qualifications
- Minimum of 3 years’ security management experience
- Minimum 3 years prior staff management experience
- Proven use of the following computer software; Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Access, Lotus Notes, Northern Win-Pac, PPM2000 IRIMS III, Internet and PCs
- Experience with access control, report writing, CCTV systems and Lost and Found
- California driver’s license in good standing
- Experience hiring and training security staff

- Ability to effectively communicate to staff new procedures and policies
- Solid staff management skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Expertise in general security program structures, related legal issues and security-related technologies
- Knowledge of radio communication technologies and practices
- Ability to both lead and participate as a member of a team, as needed
- Excellent customer service skills, both internal and external
- Ability to communicate to all Aquarium volunteers and employees the necessity of complying with Safety and Security Standards
