Oceanographer for a Day

Oceanographer for a Day

A hands-on adventure awaits!

Break out your lab coats and log books, you’ll be doing some pretty sophisticated analysis of local marine habitats during your research cruise! You will board Long Beach Marine Institute’s 80 foot research vessel Conqueror right in front of the Aquarium of the Pacific and experience a local research cruise.  Students truly become oceanographers for the day as they inspect ocean sediments, measure and record the contents of an otter trawl, view marine plankton and sieve burrowing benthic creatures. They will compliment their experience with a comparative analysis of animals from different habitats and climate zones as they spend the afternoon walking through the Aquarium of the Pacific.

*This program can be adapted for all ages.
