Aquarium Education Program

Preschool Program: Shining Stars

How do sea stars see? What do sea stars eat? Do they sleep?

Foster a love for the ocean in your four- to five-year-old child in our series of preschool programs designed to keep even the wiggliest child engaged and entertained.

Each 2-hour class allows children to explore and learn about marine life independently from their parent through games, crafts, tours, snack, animal touch time, and more.

Please note that this is a child only program. If you are interested in joining your preschool child in a class, please see our Saturday Family Fun programs.

Shining Stars:

Did you know that sea stars can see? Or that they breathe with their feet? Learn all about these five-armed critters and their tide pool home in this preschool class. During this 2-hour program your four- to five-year-old child will:

  • Discover the many relatives sea stars have such as sea urchins and sea cucumbers
  • Find out the bizarre way sea stars eat their food
  • Make their own sea star picture frame and fill it with a picture to remember their day at the Aquarium
  • Take a guided tour of the Northern Pacific gallery
  • Touch sea stars and their relatives in our private classroom touch pools
  • Enjoy a snack of goldfish crackers and juice
